Activities conducted by the Department of Oriental Languages
during September 2013 to August 2014

1. Commemoration of the 42nd Death Anniversary of Gurram Joshua: The Department of Telugu commemorated the 42nd Death Anniversary of Navayuga Kavichakravarthi Gurram Joshua on 24.07.2013. The occasion was marked by the Department releasing a book entitled “Vachana Gabbilam” written by Late Chavvaka Ramakrishna. Faculty of the Department and students of AET, NET, DET, AMAS & NMAS sections participated in this programme.
2. The Department of Telugu organized an Educational Tour for the final year Special Telugu students to Amaravathi, a historical Buddhist place in Guntur District, on 26th January 2014 under the leadership of Dr.V Gopala Reddy and Sri K.Sekhar, faculty of the Department.
3. The Department of Oriental Languages observed the International Mother Tongue Day on 21st February 2014. Popular critic and a well known scholar, Dr.Sasri, Associate Professor, PG Department of English, PBS PG College, Vijayawada, delivered a talk on the importance of mother tongue. Students represented 24 states in India spoke in their mother tongue on this occasion. The Department conducted various competitions like Essay Writing, Debate, Poem Recitation, etc .The winners of the competitions were presented with prizes and certificates. All the officials of the College were present at this programme.

4. The Department of Telugu organized a Career Guidance programme on 26th June 2014 for the final year Special Telugu students.

5. On the occasion of Telugu Bhasha Vaarotsavam, the Department of Oriental Languages in association with ‘Samskruthika Chaitanya Vedika’, Vijayawada, organized a Talk on “Telugu Basha Vikaasam” by the popular stage artist Sri Achanta Venkataratnam Naidu and also an awareness programme on Telugu on 22nd August 2014. Sri Achanta Venkataratnam Naidu demonstrated the sweetness and fragrance of Telugu Language by reciting poems from popular mythological Telugu dramas. On this occasion, Sri Achanta Venkataratnam Naidu was felicitated by the College Management, Faculty, Students and Samskruthika Chaitanya Vedika Chiarman Sri Golla Narayana Rao and Secretary Sri S.Ramesh Babu.
