ABOUT LOYOLA

Andhra Loyola College is a Jesuit College in Vijayawada,
the second biggest city in Andhra Pradesh.

Andhra Loyola College is managed and administered by the members of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), a Catholic religious order, which has rendered signal service in the fields of education and service to humanity for over 450 years. The college was founded in December 1953 at the request of the Catholic bishops of Andhra Pradesh and began its academic sessions in July 1954. The college offers Intermediate (+2), Degree, and Postgraduate courses as well as conducts research programmes in collaboration with several reputable universities.





COLLEGE CREDENTIALS

• The College was granted Autonomy on 10.1987 for its UG; and for its PG programmes on 20.05.2017.
• The UGC awarded it the status of a “College with Potential of Excellence” in September 2004 in the first phase itself as one of 47 Colleges at all India level.
• The Department of Biotechnology, of India, selected it under the Star College Scheme in February 2016 as the only College in both the Telugu States so far.
• It is the only College that has been getting ranked among the top 150 Colleges from both the Telugu States since the commencement of the National Institute of Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rankings in 2017 to rank more than 43,000 Colleges at the National Level.
• The Department of Science and Technology, of India, selected it under Fund for Improvement of Science & Technology (FIST) in January 2018 as the only College in both the Telugu States so far.
• The MHRD, Govt of India, selected it under Component - 8 for “Enhancing Quality and Excellence in select Autonomous Colleges under Rashtriya Utchathar Siksha Abhiyan (RUSA) in June 2018
• Sports Authority of India sanctioned it the prestigious Khelo India Centre in August 2020 as the only College in both the Telugu States so far.

In its 70-year-long history of operating socially relevant academic programmes in an environment at once disciplined and eco-friendly, given its vast and verdant campus, the college has remained steadfastly committed to its mission of producing men and women of both academic excellence and human excellence. That a large number of the alumni of the college have distinguished themselves by their signal contribution to their own professions as well as society (details under ‘Alumni’) does indeed vouch for the excellence the college has achieved.

Students’ strength

In spite of all the odds 1224 and 168 Students got admitted in our I year UG and PG Programmes respectively during this 2023-2024 Academic Year.
With these admissions the total number of students in the College for this Academic Year stands at 3656 (representing 23 out of the total 28 States and 8 Union Territories) . Of these, 3329 in the UG Wing and 327 in the PG Wing.
